Welcome Statement
from Rosemarie Scolaro Moser, Ph.D.
It is a great honor
to be nominated for President of NAN. With many years
of successful governance, advocacy, practice, teaching,
research, and fundraising experience, I am particularly
well-suited to be NAN’s public ambassador and strong
professional advocate. I bring to NAN fresh relationships
that have been forged with legislators, government agencies,
and not-for-profit organizations to address the increased
prevalence of TBI and new frontiers of promoting brain
health throughout the life span. We have an opportunity
to make further in-roads to assert our value to third
party payors, secure research funding, and increase career
opportunities at all levels of training and experience.
I received my PhD from the University of
Pennsylvania in 1981 and am a Fellow of NAN and APA Division
40. I have served four years on the NAN Board, reorganizing
our treasury and developing accountability, transparency,
and policy. I have received national and state awards
for legislative advocacy and held numerous leadership
and presidential positions in membership organizations.
I have served on four university faculties and five hospital
staffs and possess a formidable fundraising resume. My
scientific/professional publications cover topics such
as concussion, learning disorders, substance abuse, violence,
personality, and ethics. I am Director of a thriving
New Jersey group practice with an active sports concussion
research program.
Neuropsychologists are becoming ever
more essential members of the medical team and innovators
in emerging health care venues. With the silent epidemic
of military TBI, the public health concern of sports
concussion, and the dilemma of a growing population of
aging individuals, neuropsychologists are now in the
spotlight demonstrating their value and expertise in
ways never before imagined. We have a commitment to share
our expertise and disseminate knowledge about cognitive
processes in schools and public arenas.
NAN is a dynamic
organization in the field of neuropsychology, bringing
together a burgeoning and diverse membership, dedicated
to quality and integrity in practice, science, education,
public policy, and public awareness for our profession.
NAN provides a platform for the important qualities of
a membership association: unity, advocacy, professional
support, inclusiveness, camaraderie, and social responsibility.
Our organization, like many others, faces
challenges of unifying diverse viewpoints within our field,
strengthening the profession, and cultivating new roles
for practitioners and academicians. My valuable experience
and skills will help unite the rich diversity within NAN
and propel our profession forward in exciting directions.
